Starvation is not the Answer

When we think about losing weight, the first thing that strikes our mind is reducing the quantity of food intake. There is no denial in saying that for losing weight, it is necessary to cut short the current diet. However, people think that decreasing the amount of food consumption means starving.

Losing Weight with Starvation

It is not uncommon to see impressionable girls (mostly!) starve themselves daily by consuming one meal or surviving on juices only. This does tremendous harm to the body. When we starve ourselves, our body senses that starvation mode and sends signals to slow down the metabolism.

Our metabolism is responsible for the absorption of all the nutrients from the food. When the metabolism slows down, the body will begin to store more energy from the food, and will decline the use of extra fat of the body. All this process will not burn the body fat. Instead, it will reduce the muscle tissues from the body.

The loss of muscle tissues will slow down the metabolism even further which results in almost 0 fat loss from the body. The reason behind starving yourself was to eradicate the extra fat from your body, but it is doing the opposite. By keeping yourself hungry for an extended period, you are not only increasing the body fat but decreasing the existing muscles from your body.

Starving yourself for longer periods could propel you towards binge eating. Then, you will be eating a lot more calories than you usually do which could result in sudden and speedy weight gain rather than weight loss.

One of the worst things about starving is that you cannot rely on it. Though it may help some of the people in losing a few pounds initially, but that will not be permanent. The moment you start taking your regular diet, you will surely gain the lost weight again. Losing weight through starvation is a futile and stupid decision.


Now, you must be wondering what exactly you have to do for losing  weight. Without a doubt, the answer is not starving; losing weight is all about taking a healthy diet. You need to get rid of the misconception that starving will help you in weight loss.

To lose weight, you need to reduce the number of calorie intake. In addition to that, you need to burn more calories than you are consuming.

However, the regular food you may be eating might contain a high number of calories which could affect your weight. How?

#1 Carbohydrates

The first thing that you need to do is limit the carbohydrate intake. It is best that you only consume carbohydrates two times a day. Foods like rice, white bread, and doughnuts contain a high number of carbs which could contribute to your weight gain.

#2 Sugars

You need to decrease the sugar consumption. Sugar increases the insulin level in blood. For all those people who do not know, insulin is responsible for converting the energy into fat cells which means that the more sugar consumption, the higher amount of fat in the body. You need to make sure to decline the consumption of sugar.

The most important thing that you need to ensure is to eat plenty of healthy food. You can consume fruits and vegetables as they are highly nutritional that will fulfill your body’s dietary requirements. The best thing to do is replace your regular food with healthy fruits and veggies as they fall under low-calorie diet and will help you in weight loss.

#3 Protein

Even though fruits will provide you with most of the nutritional requirements, but one thing that your body may need to convert that fat into muscles is protein. To complete the protein requirement, you can depend on whole eggs, fish, meat, and beans. All these foods are high in protein and will help you in getting lean muscles.

Having healthy food will help you in losing weight. If you want to get the best results, then you can consider doing regular exercises that will not only help you in burning the excess fat from the body with minimal calorie intake but will also ensure that you achieve lean body muscles.
